That #$%^#$# Roll Call vote!

Tue Aug 26, 2008 at 08:09:47 AM PDT

The only reason to have a convention is to nominate a candidate for president and a candidate for vice president.
From what I can see so far, they may not actually do it this year, opting to cancel the actual nomination and just go on as if it already happened.

this is not a good idea at all.

Voter registration will be key!

Tue Aug 26, 2008 at 12:54:51 AM PDT

Seeking new voters and registering them , has now become more important then it was believed to be a few months ago because the party may not unite on a 90% clip.

The Obama campaign had always planned on having massive registration drive , but they never thought that those new voters would be used to replace current democrats who still refuses to support Obama.

I've always believe the long primary could have a negative effect , and we are seeing it before are eyes.

The Clintons are still acting like sore losers and McCain is gladly taking advantage of this.

democrat 2008 equals republican 2000

Mon Aug 25, 2008 at 08:26:18 PM PDT

how on earth could anyone support george w. bush in 2000? the guy was a complete idiot with nothing intelligent to add to the debate. a simpleton. other than his name, he brought nothing to the table. nada. nothing. ziltch. but he had the right name. george w. bush. the same name as another. an oil man who gained fame by having the right name.

but he won. he beat a vice president from a successful administration. a hero to the progressive cause. al fuckin' gore.

then he beat a war hero. an idiot beat a great american. john kerry got shit in august 2004 and the progressives yawned snd laughed as the idiots who knew better took their summer vacations. but, of course, they didn't laugh long. the idiot beat kerry by more than he beat gore. shit, gore at least won the popular vote. and probably florida too.

Those Who Oppose Obama and the democrats bear the burden of the republic

Mon Aug 25, 2008 at 11:42:38 AM PDT

There are those who will refuse to turn their backs on their beliefs for the sake of temporary political gain. Many will, some will not. Those who don't are of far better character. Anyone can sell out, it's easy, you merely need ask an Obama thug ( sorry, supporter) They can teach the world about selling out and cowardice.
Good Luck To Us All!

Modern Day Kennedy Or The Token Black Man?

Sun Aug 24, 2008 at 10:05:39 AM PDT

I am already preparing for the onslaught of criticism that I’m certain my point of view will generate. No fact I offer about my background, motivation or experience will serve to support a reprieve. Still, it is time to point out some simple truths. In this critical time of immense difficulty and economic struggle facing those of us who live in "Middle-Town", it’s no wonder we might gravitate towards "The One", who claims to represent change. The ongoing disintegration of our quality of life drives our desire and perceived need for a change. Is Obama, who has anointed himself "The One", the catalyst for this much needed change, reality, or merely a figment of our over active imaginations?

Hey, Senator Obama, why don't you send some of that pander my way?

Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 12:36:45 AM PDT

I'm just a little bit irked right now. I have been irked for several weeks now. Actually, I've left irked, bypassed piqued, circled around angry and am headed straight for down-town Pissed The Hell Off.

This goes against the current mood of 'say nothing against you-know-who' but it is something that needs to be said. I can't be the only person who thinks this way.

A PROPOSAL for FOX and MSNBC

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:32:20 PM PDT

Here's one where the whole could definitely be more than the sum of the parts.

Having watched a bit of Hannity & Colmes on Fox and then Olbermann on MSNBC tonight, the one thing that stood out was how lame the shows were.

Hannity bashed Obama and ate up any liberal who got in his way. Colmes did a reasonably good job but didn't try to match shouts with the blowhard.

Olbermann did an entire show--a full hour--about McCain saying he didn't know how many houses he has.
Every single guest who came on--from a Washington Post columnist to commedian Robert Klein--echoed Keith's opinion that McCain's not knowing how many houses he has was a terrible gaffe. Then Olbermann and the guest would each congratulate each other for having the correct opinion about the significance of McCain's not knowing how many houses he has.

As a moderate, H&C made me feel like voting for Obama. But after watching the obnoxious Olbermann shadowbox for an hour I was ready to pull the lever for McCain

The solution to this lame programming was obvious.

"Above My Paygrade"?!

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 08:11:01 AM PDT

Note to Obama's handlers:  PLEASE don't put Barack into any situation where he's not on a twenty-foot podium with a teleprompter preaching in front of 20,000 fans.

What was Obama thinking (or was he) with the Rick Warren interview?  His flip "that's above my paygrade" remark is the kind of crap that comes out of evasive corporate cubicle dwellers, not a man running for President.

Stop Caving, Obama!!

Sat Aug 16, 2008 at 11:18:30 PM PDT

Here’s a quote from "the West Wing", season 1:

"You ran great guns in the campaign, boy it was an insurgency, a sight to see!  Then you won the election and moved right to the center of the road. The center of the road! Just a long line, painted yellow..."

Oh brother, Barack, are you going the same way? You started out your road to the presidency by standing firm (and nearly alone) against war with Iraq. And you charged ahead with your honest and heartfelt words and understandings, you scoffed at the pundits who declared no one could win any election without fat cat backers, you spoke out against the lies and slanders and inconsistencies and hypocrisies of your opponents, inside your party and out.  You said "I believe, not in me, but in we, the people."  You turned the whole American political scene upside-down, and you won out, against all the odds, to become the Democratic Presidential nominee.
And now what? Are you following that long yellow line?

Is Obama "Whitening" the Dem Convention?

Sat Aug 16, 2008 at 11:46:09 AM PDT

I've heard rumors the Charlie Rangels and Jesse Jacksons (to go along with Wesley Clark, who probably has more "soul" than Obama) won't have roles at the Dem convention. In others, there is no reason for them to show up.  I've heard rumors that Jim Clyburn will be the token.  Is Obama trying to avoid putting off Six Pack Joe-Pack by ensuring black faces are less prominent at this year's convention than years past?

Illinois School Funding Redux: Lies, Damn Lies, and Al Sharpton

Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 09:31:01 AM PDT

In case anyone thought that we were on the cusp of a thoughtful discussion about education in Illinois, enter Al Sharpton.

Thanks to a confused Chicago press corps that has mistaken him for a "civil rights leader", Sharpton is now enjoying local airplay for piggy-backing onto State Senator James Meeks' Chicago Public Schools (CPS) student boycott scheduled for day one of the school year.

The Edwards Scandal: Dissent, Disloyalty & Disappointment

Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 10:42:58 AM PDT

UPDATED after the jump

"Dissent Is Not Disloyalty" has been a popular slogan to quickly explain to people who progressives can hate the war but love the country.  I'm reminded of that slogan as I think about the reactions I've gotten to my writing about the John Edwards scandal.

As a long standing member of the DKos community, this hasn't been a fun subject for me to write about. I realized when I wrote my initial story  - also cross posted on the Huffington Post - that I was ahead of the curve on the story. I'd reached some conclusions that few other progressives seemed to have reached at the time. I could tell, however, that in the fullness of time the facts would bear out my conclusions so I took a deep breath and wrote as carefully and honestly as I could.
